Class DoJo

Hello parents,

To maintain a happy and effective learning environment I am going to try implementing 'Class Dojo' in our daily behaviour management routine.

Please take a look at this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rzzb5cmNoc0 - this will give you an introduction to Class Dojo and how it works.

I spoke with the children about it this afternoon and they seemed very keen to try it!

Can you guess what we did this afternoon?
We made the BIGGEST, most beautiful and delicious cookies Charter has ever seen!
This was a great way to learn about reading and following instructions, being safe in the kitchen, measuring and mixing ingredients, and of course, enjoying the fruits of our labour!
Thanks so much to Owen's mom and dad for helping us learn today!
YUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

Year 1 used the iPads to go on a dinosaur fact find!  We learned about QR code reader and how to use it, then had to find specific dinosaurs who had QR codes to listen to information about them.  We had a lot of fun with this activity.

The children had to work in small groups cooperatively to find the information.

Starting today, Year 1 is learning about measurement.  We understand now that we can use a variety of objects as a non-standard unit of measurement, including toys, pencils, water bottles, signs, and even ourselves!

We decided to gather a few materials to measure dinosaur fossil prints.  We need to estimate before we measure.  That's good thinking!

Owen suggested we could use Wikistix as a unit of measurement!

 Joyce suggested Numicon pieces.

 Uni suggested coloured pencils.

Simon and Athy suggested we use toy cars!

Toni and Joyce suggested wood blocks.
Max suggested we use puzzle pieces.

Miyu suggested we use our months of the year posters.

Athy and Max have a go with our new non-standard units.

Ida understands that she can use toy dinosaurs to measure.

Joyce correctly estimated she would need five Numicon pieces to measure the large dinosaur foot!  Well done, Joyce!

Miyu discovered that she needed a lot more puzzle pieces than she estimated she would!
