Welcome back!

Dear parents and bloggers,

My name is Ashley Moyles and I am very excited to be the new Year 1 teacher at Charter International School.  Originally from Ontario, Canada, I have been teaching overseas for 7 years in Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, and most recently, Egypt.

I have had a very busy and happy few weeks getting to know your children and am happy to report that we have memorized each other's names and are getting settled into our daily routines.

In Year 1, there are many new educational and social adventures to be had, including trips to the new canteen, regular swimming lessons, Star Charts, and lots of new learning objectives.

This week, we have started our regular ICT lessons on the EY computers, SmartBoard, and iPads! The children have learned to log in using their new Y1 password, use a mouse, and take turns to complete their tasks.  Well done, Year 1!

Our first unit is 'Houses and Homes', and we will learn about our own homes in Thailand, homes from around the world, homes for animals, and homes from the past.  This week we talked about our own homes, drew pictures, and discussed what we like about our homes and how many rooms are inside.  We learned that everyone's home is different but we all have similar features such as a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom!

Here are some photos of our first ICT lesson.

We hope you enjoy looking at our blog and don't forget to leave us a message!
We did a fantastic job of sharing and taking turns to complete an Alien Phonics Race!

We are learning to properly form our letters and numerals using BlobbleWrite on the iPads.

We enjoyed going on http://www.starfall.com and reading a story about our homes. Using a mouse is excellent practice for our gross motor control and dexterity.
