Learning Through Continuous Provision

This week Year 1 learned a new way of learning: continuous provision!  We can demonstrate responsibility for our independent learning through a variety of structured centre activities.
This week, we learned some new 2D and 3D shapes! We learned about pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, and octagons. as well as reviewing previously known shapes such as ovals, stars, hearts, and rectangles.  We will continue learning about shapes next week, including some really tricky 3D shapes!
We are enjoying building various structures using familiar shapes.  We made rockets, houses, people, animals, and trees!

In phonics, we are reviewing Letters & Sounds Phase 2.  Here we are using monster body parts to build CVC words!  This helps the children understand how words are structured and helps them with their reading.

Joyce and Suji are working hard on a phonics cut and paste activity.

In our current unit 'Houses and Homes', we are learning about animal homes.  This week, we discovered a range of animals on the farm! We enjoyed making new homes for them and talking about their habitat.

We are reviewing our spelling from Phase 2.  Here the girls are writing familiar CVC words using whiteboard markers.
